The actual trail is two kilometres long and one to two meters wide with walls that are 200 meters high. This provides enjoyable shade on the hot Australian days.

As you hike the trail Livistonia palms are visible along the ridges.

This feature of the national park was once part of a river bed and is composed of conglomerate sedimentation. The chasm was formed by running water over millions of years.

Echidna Chasm Trail is one of the most cherished treasures of Purnululu National Park.
