Gibb River Road is one of the most beautiful, most interesting and unique roads. It is used to reach some of the most cherished landscapes in the Kimberley region.

Kimberley Outback Tours does not miss it!

Gibb River Road stretches 660 kilometres between Derby and Kununurra.

The reason our Kimberley tours bring visitors on the Gibb River Road is because of all the natural, astonishing geological formations, scenic national parks and this road really showcases the beauty of the Kimberley region.

Many of the iconic formations of the National Parks along the road are towering cliff faces and flowing water features.
The Gibb River Road was an old pastoral road and is often closed during the wet season due to flooding. This occurs between the months of November through to April.

Many of the attractions include Tunnel Creek National Park, Galvans Gorge, King Leopold Ranges, Windjana Gorge National Park, Manning Gorge, Lennard Gorge and Bell Gorge just to name a few.

There are several cattle stations along the way which make for a real outback experience. Due to the yearly flooding of the road 4WD vehicles are required and fortunately our Kimberley tours have several.

With the Gibb River Road closed for half of the year, the ability to tour this area is a real treat and the geological formations are absolutely stunning.

The entire Northwestern region of Australia was formed during the Devonian period when the Kimberley region was submerged underwater.

375 million years ago the area was once a reef system.

Due to its ancient historical geography, the region has developed stunning and unique land formations which differ from other parts of Australia.

The Gibb River Road is an access point to view the ancient past in our present. Gibb River Road has to be the most interesting roads on the Kimberley Outback Tours.
